China Energy and Chemical Spot Price Index Rises 0.29% on October 22
Oct 23, 2026

The China Energy and Chemical Spot Price Assessment Index (CECSAI) stood at 1,328.31 points on October 22, 2026, up 0.29% from the previous working day. The petroleum sector assessment index stood at 1,362.78 points, while price movements varied across sectors.

Natural gas prices continued to climb, supported by costs at liquefaction plants and restocking in some markets. In the chemical sector, price increases outnumbered declines as temporary tightening in the availability of some supplies toward month-end and broadly rising futures prices supported market sentiment.

The different drivers matter when interpreting the overall increase. Cost support and localized restocking underpinned natural gas prices, while tighter availability and futures sentiment supported chemicals. These conditions suggest that the headline gain should not be read as evidence of a uniform improvement in demand across the energy and chemical markets.

For buyers exposed to the affected products, the immediate pressure may appear in replacement costs and near-term purchasing decisions. Whether that pressure persists will depend on continued restocking, the duration of supply constraints and the extent to which futures strength translates into spot transactions. A sustained price rise would require support beyond a temporary month-end squeeze; the daily index increase alone does not establish a lasting upward trend.
