Classification and Application of Alumina Balls
2023-06-17

Aluminum oxide balls are a ceramic material with a wide range of applications. The following are their classifications and uses:

classification

Classified by alumina content

Low purity alumina balls: The alumina content is generally between 75% and 85%. This type of alumina ball has a certain degree of hardness and wear resistance, and the production cost is relatively low. For example, it is used in some grinding fields that do not require high purity of alumina.

Medium purity alumina balls: alumina content is between 85% and 95%. Its physical and chemical properties are superior to low purity products, with improved strength and corrosion resistance, and the ability to withstand certain pressures and chemical environments.

High purity alumina balls: alumina content reaches 95% -99.9%. This type of alumina ball has excellent high temperature resistance, high hardness, and good chemical stability, making it a high-end product.

Function

Grinding alumina balls: regular shape, smooth surface, high hardness. The diameter size varies according to different grinding requirements, ranging from a few millimeters to tens of millimeters. Mainly used for grinding and crushing various ores, ceramic raw materials, chemical raw materials, etc.

Refractory alumina balls: have good high temperature resistance and can withstand high temperature environments without softening or deformation. It can be used normally at high temperatures of 1700 ℃ -1800 ℃ and is an important refractory material used as an inner lining material for industrial kilns, metallurgical furnaces and other high-temperature equipment.

Adsorbed alumina balls: There are abundant pore structures inside, with a large specific surface area. These pores can adsorb impurity molecules from various gases and liquids, thereby achieving purification, drying, separation, and other purposes.

purpose

Application in the chemical industry

As a catalyst carrier: high-purity alumina balls can serve as a catalyst carrier. Because it has a large specific surface area and suitable pore structure, it can evenly disperse the catalyst on its surface, improving the activity and selectivity of the catalyst. For example, it is widely used in reactions such as hydrogenation refining and catalytic cracking in petroleum refining processes.

Used for drying and purification of chemical products: Adsorbed alumina balls can effectively remove impurities such as moisture and acidic gases from chemical raw materials or products. For example, during the drying process of chlorine gas, adsorbed alumina balls can absorb the moisture in chlorine gas, ensuring the dryness of chlorine gas and preventing equipment corrosion.

Application in the building materials industry

Ceramic production: Grinding alumina balls are used for grinding ceramic raw materials, grinding various ceramic raw materials (such as feldspar, quartz, clay, etc.) into fine powder to make their mixing more uniform, which is beneficial for improving the quality of ceramics. Refractory alumina balls are used as lining for ceramic kilns to ensure stable high-temperature environment and improve the firing quality of ceramics.

Cement production: In the process of cement production, grinding alumina balls can be used to grind raw materials such as cement clinker, improve the fineness of cement, and thus improve the performance of cement.

Application in the field of environmental protection

Waste gas treatment: Adsorbed alumina balls can be used to adsorb harmful gases in industrial waste gas, such as sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, etc. In some exhaust gas treatment equipment, by filling and adsorbing alumina balls, the exhaust gas is fully in contact with the alumina balls, and harmful gases are adsorbed in the pores of the alumina balls, thereby achieving the purpose of purifying the exhaust gas.

Wastewater treatment: It has a certain adsorption effect on pollutants such as heavy metal ions and organic matter in wastewater. Through filtration and other methods, these pollutants can be removed, thereby purifying the wastewater.
