Polypropylene (PP) prices reached their highest level of 2026 in October, according to JLC monitoring cited in an October 28 market update. The outlook points to prices fluctuating at elevated levels, with raw material costs and demand expectations providing support.
China’s energy and chemical spot market assessments and indices for October 27 also indicated firm pricing for PP and related chemical products. The distinction between cost support and demand expectations matters: higher input costs can underpin pricing, while expectations of stronger demand still need to translate into actual purchasing to sustain that support.
For businesses buying PP, an elevated trading range could keep procurement costs under pressure even if prices stop setting new highs. Downstream processors may face tighter margins if resin costs remain firm and selling prices do not adjust accordingly. These are potential effects of sustained high prices; the reported price strength alone does not establish that downstream margins have already narrowed.
The current outlook supports a view of continued price firmness with fluctuations, rather than an uninterrupted rise. The key variables to watch are whether raw material cost support persists and whether actual buying follows demand expectations. Continued support from both would strengthen the case for an elevated trading range; weaker purchasing or easing input costs could challenge it.
