essential information
Aluminum oxide desiccant is a desiccant mainly composed of activated aluminum oxide. Activated alumina is a porous and highly dispersed solid material with a large surface area and well-developed microporous structure, which gives it excellent adsorption performance. Its chemical formula is usually white spherical or columnar particles.
working principle
Aluminum oxide desiccant mainly removes moisture through physical adsorption. Its porous structure provides a huge adsorption surface, and water molecules can adsorb on these microporous surfaces. When gases or liquids containing moisture pass through alumina desiccants, water molecules are adsorbed on the surface of alumina, thereby achieving the purpose of drying. The adsorption process is reversible, and under certain conditions (such as heating), the adsorbed water can be desorbed, allowing the desiccant to be regenerated and reused.
Performance characteristics
(1) High adsorption capacity: Due to its developed microporous structure, alumina desiccant can adsorb a large amount of water. It can adsorb 15-20% of its own weight of moisture, and compared to some other desiccants, it has stronger adsorption capacity.
(2) Selective adsorption: To a certain extent, it has good selectivity for water adsorption. In the presence of multiple gas components, it can preferentially adsorb water molecules, but this selectivity is not absolute, and in some complex mixed gas environments, it may also adsorb small amounts of other gases.
(3) Good stability: Aluminum oxide desiccant can maintain stable performance over a wide range of temperatures and pressures. It can be used in high temperature environments and can effectively exert its adsorption effect in the temperature range of around room temperature to 500 ℃. At the same time, it has good tolerance to most chemicals and is not easily prone to chemical reactions with dried substances.
(4) Excellent regeneration performance: The alumina desiccant can be easily regenerated by heating. At temperatures between 170-300 ℃, the adsorbed moisture can be desorbed, allowing the desiccant to regain its adsorption capacity. Moreover, after multiple regenerations, it can still maintain good adsorption performance.
application area
(1) Air drying: widely used in compressed air drying systems. For example, in the pneumatic equipment and instrument air used in industrial production, the use of alumina desiccant can remove moisture from compressed air to prevent corrosion and blockage of equipment and pipelines, ensuring the normal operation of equipment and air quality.
(2) Gas purification: Used in some situations where high gas purity is required, such as in the electronics industry, to purify inert gases such as hydrogen and nitrogen, remove trace amounts of moisture from them, and meet the requirements of high-precision processes such as electronic chip manufacturing.
(3) Liquid drying: can be used to dry some organic solvents, such as ethanol, acetone, etc. In chemical production, when these organic solvents need further reaction or storage, using alumina desiccant to remove moisture can improve product quality and storage stability.
