Synthesized via advanced alkali-metal ion exchange to achieve a uniform 3-angstrom pore opening. It selectively traps moisture and polar impurities while completely excluding hydrocarbons and larger organic molecules, making it the industry standard for deep dehydration in petrochemical, cryogenic, and high-purity fluid systems.
Type 3A molecular sieve is produced by substituting sodium ions within a Type A zeolite crystal lattice with larger potassium ($K^+$) ions. This precisely reduces the effective internal pore diameter to approximately 3 angstroms.
Because of this exact molecular gatekeeping, moisture ($2.6 Å$) and ammonia enter the internal cavities freely, while larger molecules like propane, propylene, ethanol, and fluorinated refrigerants are strictly excluded. This eliminates co-adsorption losses, suppresses undesirable side reactions, and ensures maximum purification efficiency during continuous thermal swings.
